With many bank closing branches throughout the country, what happens to wills and other important documents lodged within those branches?
I can see executors of recently deceased relatives having a real problem here. Bad enough to lose a loved one without then being unable to track down the necessary paperwork.
Any comments regarding this please.

Oh no worry, I'm sure they shred everything securely before they go, so it won't fall into the wrong hands.
probably sent to their head office to be stored and kept safe.cant see them able to shred or destroy them
Do many people sore docs there then? As deeds don't normally need storing now I don't use them. Perhaps they store them centrally, or all access requests go through a centralised system via email/central phone number
I prefer to interact with people.
That's fine, just as long as you are willing to pay the enhanced cost of doing so. Trouble is, many seem to want to whine on about it.
The total lack of interest paid on my account should cover that.
The banks write to the lucky holder and tells them to clear the account.
Or else they did that to me.
asked where else I cold store the stuff they told me they didnt know, if they did they wouldnt give and opinion and quite frankly they didnt give a stuff.

but you really knew that would occur didnt ja ?

Solicitors - the Solicitors Regulations Authority - the one getting in the neck on tel from Gloria Hunniford this morning have a section how do I get my papers when a solicitors has closed ?

The best idea is to give the executor a copy of the will
they are not exactly private in the first place
( are private until they're proved and then they are published )
they have central repositories for things that need to be on paper.
Hopefully banks have improved security as I watched a programme a while ago where there were bags of discarded bank papers thrown out in the rubbish outside a bank not even shredded, secure or what!
Wills and and any paper documents relating to Deeds for Mortgages they hold are all held in central storage and when they are needed they are sent either direct to Solicitor, customer or nearest branch for collection.

Safe Keeping boxes are sent to the nearest branch unless advised otherwise.
