Libyan Can Sue British Government Over Rendition

Don't youo think this man should actually be suing Tony Blair and Jack Straw personally. This was part of Blairs "sweetheart deal" with Gadaffi when they were kissing in the desert in 2004. Part of the deal was also freeing the Lockerbie bomber if I recollect. Why should the taxpayer cover the bill for what is clearly a just case as this man was collateral damage in Blair's great scheme of things.

No it was't.

It was part of the Blair's sweetheart deal with Bush. (Tony, do everything I say)

Rendition is a polite word for abduction. If we did indeed kidnap this man, which is illegal in UK law, then he has a case.

Blair and Straw were acting in their roles as Government Ministers. They were probably acting illegally by abducting people, but we seem to have forgiven them (or at least, we ourselves have never brought them to book).

No I dont
these two were definitely acting in a governmental capacity and so 'we' have to pay for their misdeeds - if any

in the 'good old days' you couldnt sue ministers
but all that changed with the Crown Proceedings Act 1935

and yes I do think they should sue so that the next time someone says, can you send so-and-so to X-ville so we can torture him indefinitely and in secret, the minister says No

The min should say: no because it is immoral and repugnant to Gods Law

but even if he says: "no because if they find out they will sue the *** off me" is good enough

There has been no attempt by the Crown to charge Blair and Straw when evidence of the illegal rendition came to light.

That suggests that they are forgiven. That the Government knows they acted illegally, but they will not face justice. It is left to the victims to attempt to sue them.
