Moving a bathroom

My husband and i have just bought a house needing alot of modernisation. We decided to move the bathroom from the front of the house to the back of the house (as was very small). We have the room pracitically done, tiled and ready to install the waste etc but now we ve hit a problem with the waste as we possibilly need to move a drain or run the waste from the WC round a corner before it meets the drain down to the ground. Did i or do i need planning or building regs to do this (moving the bathroom and the drain)???

Dont know where you live but here in the states you dont need a permit for anything done inside the home.

Yes, you need Building Regs approval for anything that impacts the 110mm waste soil pipes. Talk to the Building Control department at your local council. There is an application process and a fee, which finances an inspection by the Building Control Officer when you have done the works. It is quite straightforward. They may want witness your plumber test that the modified soil pipe holds a small positive air pressure. This assures you avoid stinky smells in the future.
