Firstly I apologise for missing your thanks, I gave up looking after the first half dozen answers.

Secondly it wasnt a snide remark, it was a genuine attempt to get people on here to become aware that just because we are all faceless names, manners should still prevail. In an earlier post on here about two weeks ago, I mentioned that I had just given my 100th answer and only 26 people bothered to say thank you or rate the answer. I find that to be a rather sad reflection on society and I received quite a lot of posts expressing the same views. Once again I offer my apologies. Brian.

Hi zorbas and BriWrite. Pleased to see that the temperature has cooled down again and equilibrium has been restored.

In just over a year on AB, I have responded to 1335 questions and posted 29 questions. I find that about 50% acknowledge your efforts - and it does make a difference.

I have also found that even mild criticism can generate a negative reaction, since there is no way to judge the tone or intention of the remarks.
