hi there ive had my hotpoint wmf740 washer about 6 years now ..... and for the last few times ive used it it sounds like its ready to take off when its spinning ... its that loud you cant hear any one talking .. theres no knocking or washer moving its just very very loud ... my ears cant take anymore an neiher can the neighbours lol x

Adding on the labour charge probably makes a repair uneconomical (plus something else might well fail in the near future) so, alas, it may well be time to look for a new washing machine.

If you open the door. Get hold of the top edge of the drum. If you lift it and lower it gently can you feel a slight knock. If you can it is your drum bearings on their way out.
I've got a feeling that the bearings are moulded into the drum. If that is the case, then you would have to replace the drum.
This happened to me last year. I removed the module, the motor the pump and the glass door and listed them on ebay.
The £100 i got went towards the new machine !
