He had more trouble losing the body fat on the shakes, they are quite high in calories. He now eats lots af lean meat and has a single protein bar mid-morning. His weight has dropped and stabilised at 11st and his muscle definition and body fat percentage is significantly better than when he drank shakes daily.
I see no reason to replace meals with protein shakes.
You say you are in training so imply you are trying to gain muscle rather than lose weight. So I can possibly see an argument in taking on extra whatever to supplement, but I see no advantage is replacing. Lower fat isn't going to be a big issue for you, you will be burning off energy anyway.
Shake drinks are used by some trying to lose weight, but I don't much approve. Even if you do get a result you have failed to train yourself to eat normally, and so will risk quickly going back to overeating habits one you reach goal; (or abandon the replacements).
