A Bristol man has to pay £500 to a Court, £75 fine added to that he decided not to pay, so the final cost amounted to £500, now surely he should have also been made to pick up litter from the streets and explain what happens if you Drop litter, are Fined, do not pay fine, go to court, then pay a BIGGER Fine.
Maybe some folk are beyond teaching,I was in The Keep Britain Tidy Group at school. That is where I learn not to drop litter .
I must have saved thousands on fines. Result.

I learnt not to drop litter from going to Germany. Going as a young teenager I was amazed at how clean the streets were and I've never dropped litter since (not that I was a big litter dropper to start with)

I wouldn't even drop a cigarette in the street.
Yes the man is a pillock. He should have paid the seventy-five quid, learnt his lesson and moved on (hopefully without dropping any more rubbish). Instead, from the reports I read, he became bolshie with the PCSO who issued the ticket and refused to pay.
Nice as it may seem, in a mo, the court only has power to impose a fine and not any "unpaid work" in the form of litter picking.
I've always put my litter in a bin or, if none around, then taken it home. I've NEVER dropped litter. The streets here in Brighton, as in so many other towns and cities, are filthy and covered in litter, gum, take away food boxes etc.
I don't remember when I was taught not to drop litter - probably before the age I remember even existing. I once witnessed a young lad in a ford escort throw all his wrappers and papers out of the window in a McDonald's car park. Not only did he throw the empty wrappers out but also a half eaten burger. I was fuming but didn't have the bottle to have a go. Fortunately for me this older chap did have a go at him. That was right after he'd picked the youths rubbish up and threw it through the car window. It must of made a right mess of his 'pimp mobile'. I did at that point get out of my car and walk near to his in case I needed to defend the old chap from getting punched. Justice was served.
I worked in Switzerland. no litter anywhere. so clean. lovely. can't bear to see litter everywhere an get cross when I see it being dropped.
lady-janine: I've recently been to Switzerland to do my firearms training. I don't think I saw any litter either. Having said that everyone were carrying guns so I'd expect that may have something to do with it. Drop that chewing gum and I'll shoot you....
diz I once saw a young wipe up some coffee that had been spilt on a pavement. he went into a café and got some paper tissues and water and cleaned it all up. just imagine that in this country.
lady-janine: Imaging that is something that I can't possibly do. Although if it were to happen they'd need to use Janitol solution (industrial cleaning solution that I've used before) as the pavements here are disgusting.
