Your Ideas/advice Please?

I know ABers come up with some good ideas from reading through various threads so I wondered if you could help with this question please. Friend of ours his wife has paralysed vocal cords and her "voice" as such is just a whisper. It wasn't until he mentioned their concern about certain situations that it got me thinking too, how on earth would she cope in an emergency, i.e. if she had to telephone emergency services for her husband?

Also of course there's things like her alone in the car and it breaking down, or being able to be heard when she needs to converse on her own (without her husband who does it all for her now). She does have a whistle round her neck all the time in case she needs to "shout/call" her husband so they have solved that one. Wondering if there's something that would also amplify her voice when needed too? Apparently they can't restore her vocal cords so she is trying to make the best of...so any help or knowledge of devices etc would be gratefully received so I may pass them on. Many thanks.

Hello dunnital, Maybe you could research personal voice amplifiers.There might be something available to help her.

If both vocal coeds are paralysed then she will have a tracheostomy (tube in neck)in place and nothing can be done to amplify her voice.

I would bet that only one vocal coed is paralysed and in which case she could have an injection into her vocal cord which would "stiffen it" and improve the power of her voice. Now if that is the case, then i bet she has already been offered the procedure or indeed had it.

Thanks too whistonian I will have a look for them. @ Sqad, yes apparently only one cord paralysed but she has been offered nothing and with other health problems I think if she were offered the injection she would refuse (don't blame her) lol.
