Well, no OG... he's asking for the dinner bill and the waiter would simply say "I'll be right back" after taking the proffered payment to bring him a reciept or change.
However, often the diner would take the 'check' given by the waiter to a check out station to fulfill the payment... A small but universally understood signal as to which method is to be used here is if the 'check' is laid on the table, one would take it to the cahier themselves, but if the 'check' is enclosed in a wallet like cover or if it's presented on a small metal platter, that indicates the waiter expects to pick up the payment.
