Wedding dresses off ebay

Hi, not sure if this is the right catogoery, but i was wondering if anyone had bought a wedding dress off ebay, from china or japan, the designers have some really nice dresses but i just wondered about the quality and packaging. Thanx

I don't know much about the quality, but just be careful when buying from places outside the EU. You'll get stung for Import Tax and Vat, and what started off as a cheap dress may end up costing you a fortune...

Hi kitten_uk2, my sister has just brought a gorgeous prom dress for her daughter off ebay from china and it is just like the photo and is gorgeous. I know it isn't a wedding dress but just thought I would let you know. You obviously have to be a bit more careful when choosing your wedding dress. Good luck.

My friend bought her wedding dress off ebay from bulgeria (i know its not the far east... but thought you'd be interested anyhow). It was cheap and exacly how it looked on the net.

The quality was pretty crap though. I personally wouldn't take the risk as you want the day to be perfect... but if you're on a budget maybe its worth the risk.

i looked at loads of dresses on e-bay when i was getting married. i just didn't think it was worth the risk. wedding dresses are usually adjusted to fit you perfectly with several fittings. sizes invaribly differ from whats normal because of them being fitted or the material. I found it great for getting ideas of what i wanted though. It is the most important dress you will ever buy so my advice would be to steer clear.

Answering on behalf of my fiancee...
I/We hear all the answers below and are generally in agreement. However, to be fair, the chinese dressmaker's don't supply an off-the-peg type dress - they ask for specific measurements for bust, length, waist etc when you place you order so that you shouldn't need the extra fittings.
There are some lovely designs out there and we were tempted.
That having been said, we've got a short engagement ahead of ourselves (11 weeks) and we didn't feel we had the time to risk this method of buying a dress.
My fiancee reckons that she would buy a dress like this if time allowed her to deal with the risk of it turning up and not being right. However, she feels that she'd be prepared to give one of these a try as an evening dress for a future event.
