Race For Life Shocker

I have run ( er before I needed hip replacements ) for charity to show solidarity and would not like to have been told - you have contributed nothing so you must have pocketed it ALL ....

I agree with Peter, how do they know that the runners actually got sponsorship money, they may have thought that the entrance fee was enough, along with the fact that people get pee'd off with keep getting asked for money, especially this Race For Life. My newsfeed on FB is full of people asking for sponsorship when there is a race on nearby.

I'd imagine there's more to it than that report would have us believe.

I am sure a lot of runners just run for fun and think the entrance fee IS the donation. My daughter ran in one of the 'race for life ' events a few years back, she collected £120 which I know she sent off. But she said a lot of the runners were not sponsored and just ran for the fun of it and to show support for the cause.

Maybe I've misunderstood then, I read it that they know sponsorship money beforehand but it's been collected and kept by the runners not that a third of entries don't get sponsored (which is fine by me)?

I think the organisers assume every runner is going to be sponsored but in reality a lot of them just run for the of it, sponsorship is not compulsory .

I do half marathons for a local hospice and ALL the money I get goes to them. Some of my sponsors(from AB) have sent their donations directly to the hospice.
