Will they find out?

I've just been sacked from my job which i held for just over a month, for gross misconduct (i got drunk behind the bar i worked on). Needless to say i would like to avoid telling any potential new employers about this if i can avoid it. A friend suggested just leaving the position off my cv as the employment was for such a short period, but another claims they would find out anyway when they send off for my National Insurance number. Will they? Thanks for any help.

If it was only for a month, I would leave it out but then again honesty is the best policy...which in this case will go against you. Being sacked for gross misconduct, especially for being drunk is a thing that will follow you to your next job unfortunately.
i would most definitely leave it out. i only ever put long term jobs in a cv anyway. and if, if, anyone ever finds out then you can say it was only temp job and didnt think it would be worth mentioning. ps.. dont get drunk whilst working is a good lesson to learn....who checks out references anyway.......
It all depends on what job you are going for - and with whom. Some firms would be shocked (and you probably wouldn't want to work for them anyway); others might find it mildly amusing (and they might be fun to work for). On balance I'd tell 'em. Don't brag about it; be contrite. But say it was just one of those things and it wouldn't happen again. Honest, guv. They should certainly admire your honesty. What have you got to lose? If it's not working then forget the honesty idea and flam it.
