A Train Tunnel Between Wales And Ireland...

It's easy to see the logic in the tunnel between England and France but would this proposal be a very expensive white elephant?

Jomifl - you obviously haven't been to Holyhead - even the asylum seekers wouldn't want to live there

Actually Penzance is my "home town" DTC. Jelberts is good, as is the Admiral Benbow, Causeway Head, The Lugger, and anywhere for pasties ! Who would argue that Mousehole isn't the prettiest place for miles around ! A super little town that I would move to tomorrow morning if finances allowed.
Of course the Lizard is close, as is St Ives and Falmouth. Plenty to choose from once you are over the Tamar !

But beware, Mikey. Knowing about your newly found interest in steam locomotives you will never see a preserved Great Western "King" Class locomotive in the Grand Duchy. These were the most powerful of the GWR locos but, because of their axle weight they were not permitted to work over the Royal Albert Bridge at Saltash. Apart from the branch line to Calstock and Gunnislake this is the only rail route into Cornwall and "Kings" are a no-no in the far west.
DTC....I am not a bit surprised about the sea wall at Dawlish being damaged again. AS long as there is a railway line on the edge of the beach at that point, we will always have a problem. The line should have been diverted away from this spot years ago.
More worrying is that the rivers up in Somerset are nearly overflowing again. We have had a good summer and most of the autumn, so if these rivers are a problem again in November, what is it going to be like again in January ?
