Isn't asking questions regarding the answers to crossword puzzles ,cheating.
Surely the idea is to rack your brain ,keep thinking about it ,give yourself a day or so until the answers are printed in the next day/weeks publication or ask someone else ! are you really trying ? .Do you resist the temptation not to ASK ? I must admit I have no interest in Crosswords or Puzzles of any description.

I don't (or very rarely) ask - but we are all different.

No, I don't think so, I haven't asked a Crossword Question on here for
2½ to 3 years at a guess, but I've answered a hell of a lot for others, anyway if as you say you ///have no interest in Crosswords or Puzzles of any description./// why does it bother you?
If you have no interest in crosswords etc why ask the question. In the middle of your question you have actually said 'or ask somebody else'. What's the difference between that and posting a question here? Many of us need a bit of help now and again and we have friends on here who are ready to help.
We have been here before. I am more than happy to help. As for people trying or not, most of the people who ask for help need it for just one or two tricky answers after racking their brains. Asking on this forum is only the same as asking relatives or friends for help.
Also,as I have said many times I see crosswords as ephemeral - yes I know some pay out a lot of money but I don't mind that I too could complete and send in.

I have a different mindset re Quizzes but That is not for today.

For just over 3 years, I just checked!
Not only do you get answers on here, you also get explanations which you dont get in the next publication.
It's difficult in the Radio Times, because the answers are printed two or three weeks in arrears (This week's is Number 47 and the solution is Number 42). So the Magazine goes in the Recycling bag before I see the answers. That particular Crossword has become so cryptic, yet, you can look on this site at about 11:00 a.m. on a Tuesday (When the mag is on sale) and people only need one or two to finish it!

I scour this site to find my missing answers, but I've never asked for a clue - that's what the Search Box is for.
When I joined here I'd never done a cryptic crossword. I now do a couple a day. I doubt I would have been able to tackle them were it not for the help, guidance and explanations on AnswerBank. So.... no, I don't think it's cheating at all.
I view asking questions 'within a very short time' of publication as *cheating oneself*. Most of the satisfaction of completing a crossword comes from the end-of-pencil-chewing, brain-racking time spent on searching for a solution.

Naturally, if I have expended an inordinate amount of time, I'll search for help in solving whatever conundrum with which I am presently wrestling.....but I'd usually wait at least 24 hours, or so.
I used to ask for answers to cryptic clues from time to time. In the end I decided I couldn't be *** whether I finished it or not so haven't asked since.
