Where has Men & Motors gone?
4 Answers
I recently auto tuned my digital channels and lost Men & Motors. It was replaced by a new Quiz channel which goes live next week. Details for retuning M&M for Sky viewers was given, but no number for Freeview digital. Does this mean I'll never be able to see the Professionls and The Sweeney again!!

I wouldn't mind, but just a few months ago, before ITV4 started, they had to choose between men and motors or the ITN news channel going to make way for that, and they chose the ITN news channel as men and motors was so popular. Daft innit.

ITV pulled their news channel because it was making considerable financial losses. It never had enough viewers to generate the advertising income it needed.
Although Men & Motors is an ITV company (and ITV is one of the 5 shareholders who own Freeview) it still has to operate independently as far as its finances are concerned. It seems that its audience research showed that it wasn't getting a large enough audience on Freeview to attract the amount of advertising necessary for it to continue paying Freeview for the right to be included in their programme line-up.
Anyway, there are more important things to life than 'The Professionals' and 'The Sweeney'. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope without my regular fix of 'Minder'! (The only slight consolation is that I won't have to keep seeing those dire 'hot babes' adverts any longer!).
