I sort of like the music that is played on Radio 6. But aware that my knowledge of bands and music is limited. I am after people's recommendations for songs and albums as I want to expand my music collection. I have a varied taste and happy to listen to all genres of music.

Yes.
Martin Simpson floats my boat at the moment. He's a mixture of folk and blues and is a virtuoso guitarist. Purpose and grace is a fine album to start with.
Psapp, Beirut, Penguin Cafe Orchestra. I am a great fan of these three bands. Their music is fairly hard to categorise and that is one thing I like about them.
All three could be considered virtuoso in their own right and are very definitely 'different'.

Discovered Beirut via friend. Really like them.
If you like something a bit rocky, try Muse. Their most successful songs are Feeling Good and Time Is Running Out and, while I always liked these, I have to confess I was never really a fan. My mind was changed a couple of days ago after watching this video from Wembley in 2007 – I never appreciated just what exceptional musicians they are. The stage they use and the visuals are incredible but, when I saw those, I suspected it was going to be froth on top of something otherwise a bit ordinary. Far from it. Give Belle & Sebastian a listen - especially the early albums If You're Felling Sinister and The Boy With The Arab Strap
