Everyday I witness people who buy scratchcards eagerly scratching them off in the shop, outside the shop and just now a lady grating and grinding the life out of one whilst she was casually walking home. Can't people wait until they get home? It is my pet hate.

Rant over, time for my question: The shop allows the sale of alcohol to be consumed off the premises. Although they sell lottery tickets and cards, is it legal to gamble inside the shop?

It is the act of buying the scratchcard that is the gamble, not the scratching of the card.
There is no restriction on people scratching their cards inside the shop

darn it hc, I'm fed up with people loitering at the counter scratching away, refusing to leave the queue incase they have a winner and get to choose another card. I might petition to make it illegal then :)
I have never bought a scratchcard although a friend always pops one in with my Christmas card. Needless to say, I've never had a winner. Have you?
I've neither bought one nor been given one
we've slipped scratch cards inside the christmas crackers for years and no one has ever won more than a tenner

I put them in birthday and christmas cards. I've known people to have won small amounts from them (up to a tenner, i think). I like the idea of putting them in crackers, aelmpvw.

I feel that the people that are in such a rush to get their £1 back probably shouldn't have spent their £1 on a scratch card in the first place. They could at least wait until their next trip to the shop?
I once won £20 and have had a few £1 and £2 wins.
The person in front of you at the checkout has had all her purchases bagged, then when the cashier gives the price you hear, "Oh, can I have two scratchcards, one of those and one of those, no, not that one, those... oh, and a lucky dip for Saturday". Really gets on my nipples.
The cook at the bar I go to won $50,000 three years ago on one of those scratch tickets. And yes, it is irritating and very inconsiderate when people stand at the counter in the store and scratch...The cards, that is:)
They tend to scratch them whilst still in the shop so that if they've they've won owt, they've not far to go to get their winnings or more cards which is usually the case. I know as I sell hundreds of the bleedin' thing every day.

They should be scratch 'n sniff cards. If it's strawberry, you've won. If it's a skunk, you've lost. Retailers would soon ban them instore :)
I have never had a scratchcard, but I do see people hopefully scratching. Either in the shop, or on top of the nearby rubbish container.
Iused to sell them in the local post office. We had a couple that came in every week, a lady and her carer and they spent £30 a week on her scratch cards. then they would stand there and scratch them all and any winnings they had was changed into yet more scratch cards. It was very time consuming. I never saw them win any large amount ever..
