Sanyo Vcr Problems

Sorry to bother you, I'm trying to connect a TiVo box to a VCR so that I can watch videos through the AV video channel on the TV & also tape shows to make room on my tivo. I have a scart lead connecting my tivo box to my vcr & a scart lead connecting my vcr to my tv. When I press Play, the sound plays from the tape but the picture is of whatever is on the TV channel at the time but distorted. I have to unplug my tivo to watch a video but it only plays in black & white
Is there any easy way to resolve these problems ?

I've done a similar thing to you but using a Panasonic disc recorder, rather than a VCR. Mine worked perfectly, so I was able to copy stuff from TiVo to disc in order to create space on the TiVo. I would suggest that you check the SCART connections, as a bad connection could give the results you're getting.
I'm confused about whether your problem arises when you are making the copy or when you play back the tape you have made.
To make the copy you must set the input of the Sanyo to be the SCART connected to the TiVo and set the input of the TV to be the Sanyo. At that point the TV should be displaying what the TiVo is transmitting (check by eg, viewing your recordings list on the TiVo). Start the Sanyo recording and then set the TiVo playing the program you want to copy. You should end up with the Sanyo copying your TiVo program and the TV picture and sound showing the recording.

Try playing a pr-recorded video.

If that plays ok, then I would suspect the output from tivo is wrong.

If the video still plays black and white, its either output from the video that is wrong, bad connection to tv, or TV perhaps set to receive signals as NTSC

Thanks to bhg481 & tuvok I have restored the colour setting on my vcr & can record programmes again. The problem I still have is that I have to unplug the tivo box scart connection from the TV in order to play any video tape. Does anyone know a solution to this problem ?
