Not going to make a song and dance about it, heinous enough when you see the injuries, I'm just wondering:

Will deportation be automatic/an option once they've completed their sentences?

No, they are EU citizens.

We wil lhave to find them a nice council house and pay them benefits as no doubt they are unemployable now. And of course send benefits home to their kids, but we are probably doing that whilst they are in jail anyway.

I think it will be an option; several Polish criminals in the UK have been deported in recent years. Whether or not it will happen is another matter, and probably for the Judge to decide whether or not to include a deportation order in the sentence. And then, yes, they'd have the right to appeal, although as deportations to Poland have happened, there is no reason to assume that such an appeal would be successful.

Better to let the process continue. At least they pleaded guilty.

Natural law says they should immediately be repatriated to serve their term in Poland and then not readmitted to the UK. Have a nasty feeling that this is going to prove too complicated/impossible.

Apropos - ex-pats are often refused accommodation on their return.
