What I want to know is why was he allowed to keep his passport? I'd have reasoned that surrendering a passport is something one has to do immediately, surely?
Or at the very least have some sort of 'flag' put on it for the attention of Border/Passport Control Officers?

askyourgran You don't 'stand' bail in the UK . There is no cash payment as in the USA. Bail here is just a set of conditions imposed on the accused person that they have to comply with to avoid being kept in custody.
