I was thinking along the lines of a third party breaking up a marriage relationship. Not 100% certain, that's why I just said likely to be third.

I was thinking of lioness for animal. Anagram of in sole and s but don't know where the s comes from and the meaning of the rest of the clue. Don't know why locates fits the rest of the clue. What do you have for 9 down - this would determine the S or T in 14ac.

I've got 'Adventure story' for 9 down. I'm quite new to cryptic xwords and was very pleased with myself for getting that one !Still finding cryptics very difficult though!
