I have a four year old Hyundai 120 with 4,000 miles on the clock.
First year charged £200.00 service charge, second year £500.00, third year £250.00 and now they want £400.00 for the fourth year.
What would happen if I said no and just went to a local garage if I had a problem??.

Depends on the terms of your guarantee - you may invalidate it (if it is still current) by not having it serviced by a Hyundai dealer.

On the other hand you may save so much that that is irrelevant....
'The new vehicle warranty may be invalidated and the safety and reliability of the vehicle adversely affected if maintenance and servicing is not performed in line with Hyundai Motor UK Ltd. requirements.'

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/misc-pages/5_year_warranty/maintenance_and_service
Try a different Hyundai authorised garage. Never paid more than £180 for my 5 year old i30 diesel auto
Later:

'The vehicle owner may choose an independent service provider to provide routine maintenance and service and to fit alternative parts, however any parts used that may affect the vehicles warranty, must be of an equivalent quality to the Hyundai genuine parts.'
Cars tend to alternate between "small" services and "major" services depending on the mileage.

The two smaller amounts (£200 and£250) will be small services, the larger amounts (£350 and £400) will be for major services.

If you look at the book that came with your car it will say which are the small and major services.

Once a car is a few years old I don't think there is a problem taking it to a "local" garage for a service.
I am surprised that you need it serviced at all ! 4000 miles, in 4 years ?

What do they do...change the air in your tyres ?
mikey, oil changes usually are recommended every xxxxx thousand miles or annually.
Yes...I am aware of that but even so .......
LOL, yeah I know.......
It might be cheaper for Jenny to catch a bus !

Thanks to all. Still not sure what to do. Have tried two different Hyundai service centres and both horribly expensive.
Jenny, you can have your car serviced at any garage ( so long as it's VAT registered ) without it affecting your warranty.
I'm with Tony here. .....considering the puny amount of mileage you do, its daft to spend such a large amount of money on servicing. But check that Hyundai contract first !

Driving a car for only a 1,000 miles a year was not a choice. My husband was seriously ill for a long time, and couldn't be left on his own for any length of time, (he died on Monday).
I'm not getting at you but sometimes there are good reasons why things happen.
JennyKenny, please accept my condolences. I hope you are getting the practical and emotional support you need.
My condolences to, jenny. But theres no need to pay the Hyundai main dealership prices.

Thank you.
Have decided not to have the Hyundai service.
Except my Condolences regards your Husband Jenny, my point as said by other, if you take your car to a VAT Reg Garage, ask them to use Genuine Hyundai Oils / Filters / Parts, the Warrantee has to hold ( EU Ruling ) to many garages try this on that the buyer HAS TO get their car serviced at a Hyundai Dealer, another con job Jenny. Good Luck.
