Most VHS players have 'phono' outputs on them. Then you'd need some software to record an audio file. Windows has its own sound recorder (it's under 'Accessories') but most people would probably prefer to use Audacity:

(to export an MP3 file you'll also need this plugin for it: http:// manual. audacit yteam.o rg/o/ma n/faq_i nstalla tion_an d_plug_ ins.htm l#lame ).
Once you've got an audio file onto your PC you need to insert a blank CD-R disc into the drive and use your burning software to create an audio CD.

You can buy all sorts of gizmos and gadgets that promise to do this easily at the touch of a button. That is rarely the reality and as this is a one off video and not a whole collection a possible waste of money.

One cable with a stereo jack one end and microphone jack on t'other end. Plug stereo jack into VHS to Play. Microphone jack into PC to Record. There are various adapters for jacks.
I use a cable with different sized jacks either end that I use for same.
