Static Caravan Planning
3 Answers
Hi all first time on here hoping someone can give me a definite answer to my worry.
I'm planning on getting my bugalow extended and was getting ready to put the planning in Feburary ready for a spring desicion and to be able to start straight away.
I will be doing most of the work myself so have been getting materials on site ready. It's a 4 acre site which I have already obtained planning on before quite easy but money problems meant that the planning time elapsed.
I'm now ready to start again with the new plans to be put in Feburary.
So here's problem I buy a static caravan at a very good price an offer I couldn't refuse, I have put it on the drive next to the bungalow but have not connected it to any services the bedrooms have no beds and the lounge no settee so cannot live in there at the moment. My plan was to do it up ready then apply for the caravan with the plans for the extension but already someone has told the local parish council and I have now had a letter telling me to remove the caravan within two weeks even though no one has been to see what the purpose of the caravan is to be, please what can I do?

There isn't normally a problem in obtaining consent for a temporary erection of a caravan in the circumstances you describe. The consent is generally granted for two years.
It should not go against you that you have put the van in place already. However the size of the van probably means it cannot be sited without consent anyway - it will be larger than your permitted development rights. Planners may think you want it as a shed or a workshop.

If it helps put your mind at rest, I've done this myself several times. Plenty of people have done the same. I guess you had a letter from the Planning Enforcement Officer.
The locals have only got excited because they have no idea what you're doing until an application goes in, and is approved.
As BM has said, it shouldn't matter. Reply to the letter with all the facts and your intentions.
