How Do I Block Pop Ups

Every time I go into Virgin media or Google I am plagued by adverts popping up. Is there a safe way to block what has now become very annoying. It is doing it even as I type this

It is a safe thing to do. Just follow the instructions that will appear when you have searched.

Pop-up blockers generally only block pop-ups that the site you're viewing intended to be there. Since most browsers now incorporate pop-up blockers anyway it appears to be a different problem - see below.

Adblock Plus, as recommended by 2sp_, gets rid of ads from pages like the one you're viewing now but doesn't deal with pop-ups.

If you're seeing lots of pop-ups on your screen, the problem you've almost certainly got is that your computer is infected with MALWARE. Download, install and run the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

(NB: When installing it, take care to deselect the option to take a free trial of the 'Premium' version. When running it, don't be surprised if a scan takes ages to run; that's normal. When malware is detected, as it almost certainly will be, use the 'Quarantine' option to get rid of it).
