I'm watching a programme on Channel 4 about the dismantling of Camp Bastion. Its interesting but the scale of it and the cost of it is overwhelming.

Making me mad now. Anyone else watching?

I thought the Taliban had just done that for them free of charge!
Yes, a bit light on information and am trying to get my head around 1,000,000
Meals provided at a cost of £220,000,000, did I misread this?

Cost £19million to provide drinking water alone for the troops

Billions to run it, billions.
It was £22 million to feed them - I think the programme is absolutely fascinating.
nah, it was 100 million meals
Maydup. My fag pocket knowledge tells me you cannot be accurate with billions.
The MoD budget is about £30bn annually, but that supports everything including 100k troops. Never more than 8k of these were in Afghanistan.
Bastion has been there about 10 years.
My guess is less than £300 million has been expected there.
in all fairness, i think they were talking about all three camps, Bastion, the american one and the afgani one
It was a fascinating programme. Have to mention that there were 1000s (400K ish I think) of support workers there who are not in the forces.

It cost £50million to build it, and £300million to dismantle it!
A very interesting programme. Like you, I was totally unaware of the scale of the Camp. It was absolutely massive.
