Its been a while since I wore pierced earrings. Just started using them again, gold ones. One ear is fine, the other is very sore at the back of the hole, its hard to get earring through, I have been persevering and using Surgical Spirit and antiseptic cream for the last four days, however it is still sore and feels hot, however it isnt swollen so I dont think infected. I think maybe the back of the hole has tried to close up. I have to take them out at night as they are uncomfortable. How can I stop the soreness and keep the hole open ? Just a normal piercing at the lobe.

You could try wearing silver or gold sleepers, smurf. They're not uncomfortable to sleeping and you can twirl them round to keep the hole open and clean.

I would wipe with watered down dettol with the sleeper still in.

I thought of that 2sp, I bought some for £15 this week, and they were so thin, when I opened them I thought they were going to split, and then they wouldnt go back into the hole in the earring, to keep them secure. So they are going back to the jewellery shop.
I don't think the shop will take them back. I am sure I have seen signs in jewellers that you cannot return earrings for pierced ears because of infection.
It's hard to find sleepers that are sturdy enough not to snap, but flimsy enough to get all the way round (if you know what I mean!).

are they uncomfortable at might because they dig into your head? If so then pad out the backs with some cotton wool or sponge and twiddle the earrings around as often as you think to.

Margo, I took them out the box and just tried opening them and didnt even attempt putting them on, there was no point, I wouldnt have done them up! I phoned the shop the same day and the manager said to bring them back. So fingers crossed ....
Smurf - that's good, you should have no problems then x I would think it is just a question of perseverance. I quite often leave mine out for a few weeks and they are a job to get back in. Have you got any small studs they may be more comfortable at night, otherwise just wear during the day and take out at night.
