it's the law, though. He committed the offence at a time when the law was inadequate. You can change the law but you can't change someone's sentence retrospectively.

Might be better to put him in protective custody as I'm sure(or at least hope) South Wales Police are on some form of heightened alert over this release.
Whilst I understand the law is the law it ought to be circumvented in instances where the prisoner has not made one iota of effort to address his offending whilst in prison.
A sort of 'detained at Her Majesty's pleasure in order to preserve indivdual and public safety' type law is needed.

This is one of those occasions where the sword of the law is double-edged.

the fabric of the judicial system keeps everyone safe from unfair treatment, and that must include criminals like this.

It is a dreadful situation, but the law must be obeyed, until it can be changed.

How can the presiding Judge not know the law and the sentencing?

there is such a law. But there wasn't when the crime was committed. And it cant' be invoked just because you don't like what somebody's done in the past. It's only available in the case of somebody who commits an offence while the law is in force.

Terrible, but the mistake was by the original judge who should have given say a 20 year sentence not an indeterminate one. In this case the judges hands were tied.

I get that his sentence was unlawful. What I don't get is why his sentence can't be reviewed, and keep him in in prison until it is, rather than let him out.

I really hope his picture is splashed all over the papers so that we can see what this monster looks like.
