Few opening ceremonies consist of 'sporting themes'.
It is a showcase of the host country to the rest of the world......the theme of 2012 olympics was the transisition of UK from a bucolic society to the power-house of the world via the advancements during the industrial revolution.

I'm not entirely sure what the theme of the video clip was, let alone the opening ceremony. None the less, it does have a point about the prevalence of religious imagery in everyday life, whether demons snatching souls, names like Cruella de Vil, or people singing about Jerusalem.

But saying "Whatever it is meant to convey, the message surely comes off creepy" isn't really a helpful analysis of anything. As for the New World Order, that was obviously a bust, as the old Eton world order still seems to be in power.
