New Security Lights Floodlighting Bedroom
6 Answers
One of our neighbours has had a motion and UV sensitive security light installed overlooking their back garden. It gos off randomly during the night, usually in 'fits' of two 20-odd second bursts, filling our our bedroom with unwanted radiance. Maybe cats or owls or billowing twigs set it off, maybe it's just wonky.
I already have a blackout blind and curtains! It is so powerful that the little bits round the edges of the blind are dazzlingly bright. The neighbourhood isn't dangerous and they already have 6-ft fences all round their garden. I suppose I'll have to add blackout curtains to the blackout blinds but it seems a buddy antisocial thing to do. Has anyone else had to cope with a similar problem?

I did as suggested and politely asked that he fix/redirect/remove them - but to no avail - he's not a nice man .. at all.
So I borrowed a couple of 2 million candlepower floodlights and a light sensor and pointed them directly at his windows. Whenever his lights triggered so did mine. And they were very bright.
Problem solved within a couple of days ... his lights angled away so that they wouldn't trigger mine & his sensor sorted ...

When we moved a couple of years back, I fitted similar to rear of property, one of the neighbours started moaning over the fence before they had ever been switched on.
I told him to wait 'til it got dark, and we would angle them to suit the site, which is exactly what we did, no more problems, lights my garden only now, everyone's happy.
A neighbour has one of these lights over her front door. It's meant to trigger when someone comes to the door but it's angled in a way that even passing by on the pavement, it'll shine brightly. I feel like I'm in a stage spotlight and think "ooh, I should've combed my hair, done my make up, worn a ballgown. I'm ready for my close up Mr De Mille".
Our neighbours have similar and it's very, very annoying. About time these high wattage lights were banned from domestic premises. We have a security light ourselves (but really so we can see our own path in the dark!) but it's only 100 watts and points straight down at the path rather than our neighbours windows.
