Aircraft Flights

I live in Maldon, Essex and in the dark evenings I see some sort of aircraft flying due west on a regular basis. From the rear they appear to be travelling fairly slowly and have a white light on each wing-tip, plus a flashing white light. The regularity is rather intriguing and I wondered if anyone has any information on what, if any, is their purpose and destination.
