I know they have had a bad press of late.....but there are some lovely homes and carers out there....
I have been to see my mother.....something I struggle with but.....
The carers don't seem to......she is always so fresh, clean and well dressed, that's something I never achieved.....
The home is happy, Christmassy and pleasant .....she has little gifts from the staff and today I watched the way they were with her when hoisting her into bed.... so caring...chatty even though there was no real response....stroking her cheek and hands.....
So...if you are caring for the elderly, ill or those with dementia...at home or in care.....you have my admiration....I couldn't do it.
Luckily my nan is in a very good home. Actually looks more like a hotel, and two of my cousins work there. They stroke her cheeks and rub her hands as well (all staff, not just my cousins)
I cared for my poorly uncle but he was mentally sound. I don't think I could have coped if he was worse than he was.
I have complete admiration for those that look after our loved ones.
I will second that Gness, my Mum is in a lovely place, with wonderful staff. The place is all decorated, they had Christmas party with professional singer, and a good amateur production of Jack and the Beanstalk. Always gets a gift from her key worker. I arrived to visit on one of her bad days and I stood outside her room for a few seconds and although she was being difficult the carers were being so patient and kind to her.
Isn't a relief when you know they are in a good place....I too have seen the way they are with the difficult residents when they didn't know anyone else was near.....makes you that bit happier.....x
I worked for a guy with MS recently. His carer phoned me last week to see if I had put his laptop somewhere. I hadn't moved it..looks like one of the caring team has nicked it :-(...scumbag!
