Some rotten scumbag broke into a relatives house last night while they slept upstairs.

First they knew was when they came down to the door wide open and a window. Nothing was taken so the police are suggesting "they" were disturbed.

Nowt new in this sort of thing, unfortunately, but when its local and relatives it makes it worse.

People who do this sort of thing want there fingers chopping off..scumbags.

Yep, agree with that, cupotee. They are scumbags, lucky nothing was stolen though.
Very frightening for your poor relatives - if it happened to me I would be nervous for evermore.
Disgusting and should be severely dealt with in the courts ...... but sadly it often isn't.
I got broken into on Christmas day a few years ago and see this;http://m.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question1389089.html
A horrible thing to happen to anyone - it must be so unnerving.
I hope they're ok Cup. What a terrible thing to happen to anyone. As you say, they are scumbags. xx
It's awful. I was broken into just after christmas when the kids were little. He was in all our rooms while we slept. I couldn't sleep for ages after.

The police said that most people think they'll wake up, but they rarely do.
How awful for them, I am glad nothing was taken. These *** have no thought for anyone but themselves.
The bloke who burgled us was a drug addict. He got four and a half years prison (we weren't the only victims)
I agree with you cupotee.these people are total scumbags and worse.

I have 3 friends who were burgled a few years back. Lots of things taken on both occasions.

It must feel awful to realise someone uninvited has been on your home and taken things.

The law just isn't tough enough on these scroats to put any fear into them. Slap o the wrist and away you go...only to do it again.
That sounds awful. Our village is plagued with crime which is why we have 19 CCTV cameras and floodlights attached to alarms inside the house which alert us to people coming within even 10 metres of the property.

We've had 4 people arrested and charged (one of which died of cancer before making it to prison) and 7 people charged for fly tipping. No one is stupid enough to attempt to get into our house but the garden seems to be far game for them.

A few years back I was upstairs on my PC with the CCTV running in the background and watched 2 lads dressed in dark clothing climb over my front fence. I didn't bother with 999 because all they were doing was trespassing. So I rang the local police switchboard and asked for operations. I reported that 2 youths (one carrying a knife, as he was) we on my property and I felt threatened.

To cut a long story short it took the police 45 minutes to turn up and when they did it was only one officer who didn't trust me (because it was dark). It probably didn't help that I hide the keys under the bin (just in case I got knobbled by the two lads, at least then they could take my keys from me and get inside - always thinking me!). I even had a walking stick and put on a fake limp ;) a perfect weapon should I require it.
Makes sure no spare keys were taken as these *** have a habit of returning
Sad I know but I was sat on the pavement outside my house for 45 minutes minus how ever long it was from me calling to getting outside after checking the garden.
PS: Good one to bring up! If you aren't sure if they've taken your spares or if you've misplaced them then I'd still suggest changing the locks. 5 lever locks aren't that expensive - not for the price of safety of yourself and your family.
