A friend of mine has come up North for the holiday and has forgotten to bring the form from the DVLA that he needs to tax the car on 31st December.

Can he go to the DVLA office here to tax his car, with proof of identity?

I know he can tax it at the PO, but hasn't got his insurance or MOT documents with him either.

I think the advice to ring DVLA and explain he is stranded away from home without the relevant numbers may bring the best advice, rather than chancing it.
Son was able to tax his at PO, just by quoting the Reg number. The other stuff was on the PO's computer, MOT, Insurance etc. date was 1.11.2014

Thanks, tonyav. That makes sense.
There you go then, chrissa. Might be worth a visit to the post office.

Thanks, ferlew. We shall find out on Monday.

Thank you for all your answers.
Whiskeryron's link also included a phone number to tax by phone.

0300 123 4321

He could try that and see if they can do it from the reg number alone.

Good news. He went down to the PO and they brought all his details up on their computer.

They should have charged him £25 for doing it for him with no documents but, the lady let him off the charge. Very kind.

So, car all taxed and legal for his journey down South, next week.

Thanks all, again.
