They have really done it up in the last few years, in the old town there is a lovely " Tapa Trail" and the new port is supposed to be great. There is a Picasso Museum as well as a castle, well castle ruins. Really nice day out. Hope the weather is nice for you, it can still be chilly and rainy in March. We live on the Costa.
The train station and the bus station are very close to one another in the centre, you can get the train to Malaga very easy and on your return Fuengirola is the last stop so can't go wrong, however for a great day trip catch the local bus to Ronda, a fabulous trip up through the mountains and well worth it, also the local bus runs from the same bus station to Mijas, don't pay hotel prices for day trips use the local transport, its so easy and cheap and a lot more fun.
