That full-page ad is from an American magazine (I have the name written somewhere) published in 1916. In the small print it indicates that despite the war, prices of tea would not go up. The ad is unusual for its time for being in colour.

That refined lady in the ad would, with raised eyebrows, glare with great askance at you lowly English people dunking cookies into her tea proffered to you in her best bone china cups and saucers:)

I think, murraymints, that at that time most foreigners, including the Americans, classed anyone from that island next to France as English.

I realized that, DTC, when I used the word. "Biscuit" is so much more refined. In fact, I think that the elegant matron in the ad would have used the term "biscuit":)
