Ive only read the first Simon Serrailler...I should try to catch up. But her ghost stories are not to be missed if you like a bit of old fashioned chills. Her ability to evoke atmosphere,time and place is unlike any other modern writer's. But best are her lesser known novels...my favourites are A Kind Man, and The Service of Clouds...again,her gentle style and...
I looked at "The Woman in Black" on Amazon but was rather put off by the 1-star reviews - one of which had the rather odd comment "I've had creepier and scarier moments walking my dustbin down the alley way at night."
So instead I've downloaded "The Various Haunts Of Men" on to my Kindle - that'll be tonight's book at bedtime.
I've only read Woman in Black and saw it in the theatre MANY years ago. The wonderful John Duttine was in it. It was the only time in a theatre I was GENUINELY terrified. It was an excellent production. VERY chilling.
