Christmas finishes on two dates, boxie....the 6th on Epiphany or with Candlemas, which falls on Monday Feb 2. For example major cathedrals keep their trees up until the 2nd - and, supposedly the tradition, the singing of carols is from the 25th to then and not before Christmas Day - source: the Dean of Truro Cathedral.
We could have a new one for tomorrow. Notable events for 4th January are:
1906 - South Africa beat England by one wicket, their 1st Test win
1903 - Topsy, an elephant, electrocuted by Thomas Edison during the War of Currents campaign.
1887 - Thomas Stevens is 1st man to bicycle around the world
1762 - England declares war on Spain & Naples
46 BC - Titus Labienus defeats Julius Caesar in the Battle of Ruspina.
