not sure about the safety of either of these things...ask your local pharmacist and they'll be happy to help. I suffered badly from heartburn during my pregnancy, but kept it at bay by sipping cold milk thoughout the day and (especially during the last 8 weeks when I was massive) eating only small portions at regular intervals, rather than 3 large meals a day. Definitely no probs with milk, and the calcium etc is good for both you, and jnr.

Speak to your midwife as she will be able to prescribe gaviscon. Check labeling of all products before taking as some rennie tablets are ok when pregnant others are not. The reason being that it is very difficult to find pregant woman to test medicines (no surprise there) so many have to carry warnings.

Of course if your midwife prescribes it will be free with your maternity exemption certificate.

Do you realise that heartburn when pregnant means a baby with head of hair? I suffered badly and my son was born with thick brown hair.

Oh and no matter how bad it gets, as soon as the babys born it disappears immediately.

gaviscon is OK, my daughter is pregnant and takes it as advised by her doctor and prescribed by him.
I can totally understand what you are going through I suffered badly too. I did keep Gaviscon in business but what I also found fantastic was M&S or Volvic Lemon and Lime flavoured water. I swore by it, keep it ice cold and it did the trick for me.
If you can stop drinking caffeine and switch to chamomile tea. It will do wonders and you do get used to the taste.

Gaviscon is the only one licensed to be suitable throughout pregnancy. In the last 4 weeks I used Zantac as well, one tablet of that would keep me ok for at least a day. I found avoiding spicy foods, excessive dairy and anything with citric acid in it helped too.

BTW i had terrible heartburn with both my children and they were total baldylocks.
