Caricature Software

I'm quite interested in doing caricatures for fun. I've just purchased a professional caricature of my family in the style of the simpsons. Is there any software out there available or a package that I could buy that let's me do stuff like that myself?

but it works by distorting photos, rather than by creating cartoons from them.

Have to point out that although the end result of the software will be fun, It's more satisfying to practice and be able to do it yourself.

I don't think there is one single way to do it. Different artists can pick up on different main characteristics, and portray them in their own style. Whatever you achieve is how you see it.
