It's nearly twelfth night - although mine are long gone to the loft ...

... except for one that is ...

I always have one tree decoration left out (usually hidden in a house-plant), my mum said it was good luck & meant you'd survive until next Christmas.

Does anyone else have this odd tradition - or is it just my weird family?

My paper ones come down tomorrow, the e-ones have been filed.
All my cards are going to the Sainsbury's recycling box tomorrow.
We are sad to take ours down - we leave ours up untll the very last possible minute and will take them down on Tuesday 6th. We love the lights brightening up every room, the lights around the arch between lounge and dining room, the lit up stable nativity scene, and of course our two Christmas trees in hall and lounge. We have candles with realistic looking flickering flames - very festive and cosy looking. One wall in our lounge is full of cards, we use hanging strips on which all the cards are carefully positioned with equal gaps so look very tidy. Our outdoor lights which are red holly berry lights in the hedge and white twinkly lights around the front door and lounge window, light up the whole street, very pretty not tacky ones. I notice all our neighbours have taken theirs down today so ours will show up nicely in the pitch dark street when our "kind" council plunges us into darkness at midnight. Everywhere looks so drab when they are taken down :(
Am I right in thinking you love Christmas, Ann? :o)
Ann, I have a story for wee ones on what happens to Christmas Trees - it's over on Arts & Lit with instructions on how to put your beloved's or beloveds' names in quick. Or drop me an e-mail....
I was always told that it was bad luck to leave decorations up AfTER twelfth night. I took most of mine down today but left a couple of table decs. Until Tuesday then I am covered both ways.
The Church (certainly Norwich and Truro Cathedrals) leave theirs up until Feb 2 - until Candlemas...........
So when exactly is 12th night - Mon 5th or Tues 6th? and is the saying to take them down after 12th night has gone? Opinions differ.
Thanks DTC - will take a look, I kept a copy of your children's story from a couple of years ago - may be the same one? x
I took the tree and trimmings down yesterday, and oddly enough I have left something out of the Xmas dec box again, I do it every year. It will now reside in the kitchen drawer where everything-I-might-need-in-future is
Think so, Ann......
I took ours down today also. My cards go to a friend who makes her own cards. When she has what she wants from them she gives me them back. I then cut them up for shopping lists and reminders for my bad memory.

I hope this is true as I have just found a random bauble that had been overlooked.
