Wireless Optical Mouse

Hi I am considering buying a wireless optical mouse.
Just wanted to know what people think of them compared to the wired
optical mouse that is powered by the laptop etc.

Can they be used on a tablet and what is the battery life like?

If you have a cat living with you a wireless mouse is such a bad idea. They are far too easy to flick off the desk to gain ones human's attention.

I have a wireless trackball, would not go back to a wired mouse save in emergency. 1 less trailing wire is a good thing, but keep the wired one as spare, just in case.

Since they plug into a USB poet I can not imagine there would be an issue as long as your tablet has a USB port.

Batteries last for weeks. More maybe. Not sure as I've never checked.

I always use them with my laptop, I say them because I found they only last about a year before something stops working (not battery). I can't with my tablet as there's no USB port, in fact can you use mice at all with a touch screen device, I thought not?

It would have helped if you'd mentioned what Tablet you are thinking of using it with, because mine has a USB Bluetooth adaptor and you will probably need to get some sort of additional cable to convert your mini USB hub into a full size one.

It depends on the actual mouse you buy, the cheaper wireless ones are rubbish and have quite low battery life. I prefer wired myself.

My "cheaper" one from Lidl (Silvercrest) is three years old and has been faultless...and is rechargeable. It sits in a charging-cradle when not being used...and still has the original battery in it.

But yours is rechargeable gingebee, the op didn't say they wanted one of those, rechargeable still have wires that connect the cradle to the PC or plug socket, wireless are wire free and usually just have the little USB receiver thingy to connect.

Me being a gamer I tend to buy quite expensive PC peripherals and input devices anyway, if the use is just everyday surfing etc then I suppose a cheaper wireless one would be fine.

@daffy...by any normal understanding of the words "wireless optical mouse" - that's what this is. When it's being used, there are no wires connecting the mouse to the PC...that's what most people would understand by the term "wireless". The box says "wireless optical PC mouse with charging base and USB nano receiver". It just happens to be rechargeable as well...although you could insert a non-rechargeable battery and forget about the charging-cradle.

I wouldn't hve any other sort. With a left-handed wife and a right-handed me the wire was just a nuisance. We have a Logitech optical wireless mouse on our desktop and both laptops. We use rechargeable AA batteries and they last for weeks.

I use a wireless mouse and keyboard, made by Microsoft. They both operate from the same mini usb thingy, and they have never given me any trouble whatsoever. I am not sure about battery life but I can't recall it being a problem. To be honest, I haven't seen or used a tethered mouse for many years.

Less cables and wires, less problems as far as I am concerned !

You might want to consider a wireless gaming mouse - this is the one I have Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation - it's not just for gaming (as the name might suggest) but simply has numerous programmable buttons. I've got 10 of them set to give quick access to various functions in my internet browser and I'd really miss that if I had to go back to using a keyboard to do those things.

I was told you can't use a wireless mouse with a desktop PC because the screen saver won't work -is this true?

Apparently not on my set up I am using now. I have a cheap wireless mouse brand name Trust. My screen saver works OK on my desktop.
