I'm not 100% certain about what my ancestors did during WW1, I know my two paternal Great Grandfathers and brothers etc served with a Highland Regiment in France don't know how many returned home, maternally I really don't know.
WW2 My paternal grandfather was shooting down the luftwaffe, maternally he was a fireman in Glasgow so not allowed to go... he was heavily involved in the bombing in Glasgow in 1941

Psybbs, by now, so many generations on, we probably all had relatives who died or were wounded. It's a question of knowing who though! It is/was a lovely idea and I think should be replicated in 2018 with a field of white ones that either remain as a permanent memorial or are again sold for military and service charities.
