We have many cowslips in our garden and have found a strange one rather like a 3 headed primrose (but much deeper yellow). It is growing in amongst the cowslips. Does anyone know what it is?

Its probably a hybrid between the two, commonly known as a false oxlip, not to be confused with the true oxlip which is very rare.

Thanx Thunderbird, we are trying to find a picture of an oxlip. Could we take seeds from it or will it not produce seeds?

Thunderbird, I have just found a picture of a false oxlip on the net and confirm it is the same, many thanx for your quick response.
yes I thik you could collect and sow the seed but they may be varieable, if you have some polyanthus close by they sometimes hybridise with them too. I think this is how a lot of garden varieties originate from hybrid breed ing and "sports"
Ahh!, missed your 2nd post, nice result!
