F8 On Oven
5 Answers
does anyone know what this means on an electric oven. my oven suddenly switched itself off, showing F8 on the display. shortly afterwards it showed F13. After a short time, I was able to switch the oven back on. it was not on a particularly high temperature at the time, so I wondered if somehow it had overheated. it is relatively new, less than 2 years old.

It is likely to be manufactured by AEG, though this is not definite.
The code F8 is likely to indicate an overtemperature detected around the control board.
The code F13 is likely to signal that the oven control board is undergoing a soft reset.
It then started working for you again.
It may be a unit oven, triggered by the detector triggering when it shouldn't.
It could also be triggered if the unit has not been installed correctly wrt airflow distances or gaps behind the unit, if it is a built-in oven.

thanks for that. overheating was the only thing I could think of. our old oven used to do this, but was faulty and this is a replacement. I used it again that same morning, this time at a very hot temperature and it was OK. but having had a good look, I think what may have happened is, we have an oven liner on the bottom, a washable removable soft liner, and it flaps about a bit when the fan is on. I think somehow it might have got pushed up in front of the fan, which could have caused the overheating. I don't know if this is what happened but given that it is newish, never done this before, and didn't do it again, will have to make sure this thing stays flat on the oven bottom and see what happens the next few times I use it. thankfully john lewis give 3 years guarantee on all their own label products so if it is serious, wont be a problem. unless of course I caused the problem myself!!! it was definitely fitted correctly by properly qualified people as part of a kitchen extension. am just surprised the booklet doesn't give a list of these error codes. every other applicance we have ever had, including the central heating boiler shows a list of error codes, what you can do yourself, and when to call in an expert.
