On the subject of things Burnsy ... (see "Saltire" thread, below)

My new tartan tablecloth got delivered about half an hour ago.

Woo hoo!!

My dining table looks quite refined. Like in a Scottish country hotel. Not that I've ever been to one of those, but I can sort of imagine what it would be like. I've seen movies and things.

PS We had Cranachan at our wedding dinner.
Simple but classy jourdain!
I want a tartan tablecloth now. In Manchester we have a haberdashery ..(Abakhan's) ... I might go & have a browse!!
Elina if you go to an upholster you could buy fabric much cheaper, probably not for this year though
Really Tony? No, it would be for next year. Just had a look on their website, it's between 6.00 & 12.00 a metre.

How far away am I, jourdain?

Well, I'm very close to Brighton beach, and a very long way from Scotland, if that's any help.
Only just over 500 miles then...... hmmmm!

ps. Thanks, Elli

It does sound yummy, doesn't it. I can't claim much of the credit, though. I'm just hosting. Oh, and I've supplied the tablecloth, obviously. Yay, me!
I bought one years ago, muted greens and blues, they are gorgeous aren't they, and recently OH had a family heirloom Parker Knoll armchair recovered in Black Watch tartan, and it looks so elegant, and I made matching cushions for the couch - so we are well tartaned. As his tartan is Gunn and mine Douglas the Black Watch was a good compromise.
I too have a black watch.
It's a Seiko automatic....
Elina don't know the "clan" sorry

I feel that I should maybe find out more about Scottish things. It all sounds rather jolly.
An Essex girl was struggling to get a table out of her Chelmsford house.

Her neighbour saw this happening and asked her, "Why on earth are you taking that table out of your house, Sandra."

"I'm copying my friend, Jayne, in Brighton. We're both having a Burns Night supper. So, I've got to take the table down to the shop to buy a tartan tablecloth of the same size."
