My 5 year old suffers with a rash after swimming. His face is very red and dry. I have tried aloe vera but this only helps a bit. any ideas?

chemicals dry the skin out and these are used in pools, moisturise skin loads, e45 and oilatum are good, also put some porridge oats in a bag (old pop sock) and run it under the bath tap then bath in the water great for dry itchie sore skin. it might be a sign of excema ask the doc.
E45 is good for most things brilliant stuff, thats what the dr prscribed for my kids eczema and she also gave us some steroid cream to be rubbed on very thinly, but it worked wonders1

might be worth mentioning it to the pool people - just in case they need to check the chemical levels...

I have seen people that are allergic to the chlorine in the water - and it had the same sort of affect you describe, just found this thread http://www.allergymagazine.com/features/2005/oct/chlorine.html

maybe you can do a bit more of a search but it sounds similar...

good luck

My son also used to have a reaction after swimming.I now put a emoilent cream on him before he enters the pool, this seems to give him some protection. as a barrier is built up. hope this helps.
A lot of people with sensitive skin suffer irritation after swimming because of the chemicals in the water and the first point is to ensure a thorough shower down immediately afterwards to ensure that any residue is washed off rather than drying on the skin. E 45 is a good all-round cream but Johnson's baby oil might also help. I would also mention it to the pool people as somebody might have been a little heavy handed when adding the chemicals, unless they are added automatically.
Try putting a little bit of vasoline on his face before he swims that way it will help protect his skin from the chemicals while he swims.A&D ointment will also help protect his skin while he swims and it will wash off.
