Been watching this on ITV 3 at 4.50. all week. So funny, no swearing or foul language. Though in this pc world we live in now some comments would be classed as racist.

Miss Jones: 'You know, some men have got it and some haven't and you have definitely got it Mr Rigsby'. Rigsby: 'The trouble is, I don't get much chance to use it, Miss Jones!

yes one of several 70s sitcoms that would never get produced today.
As with "love thy neighbour", "Till death us to part" etc, the joke was always on the white "Bigot" - yet still the arbiters of the ism did not see beyond their own bigotry. Remember the episode with the wood of the love tree? Classic"
"Hmm, quite firm."

I know Tora. Oh yes the wood of the love tree.

They other night Rigsby thought he had run over his cat, and decided to cremate him in the wood burner in his garage, but it was Miss Jones fox fur neck scarf.
I don't think that Rising Damp was racist or would be judged as racist now, but I don't find it funny now either. It was of its time I guess....actually I didn't find it that funny then.
if that ain't funny woofgang, you have no soul!
I wonder if ''Mind Your Language '' would be allowed today, it was so innocently funny?
Question Author
I love it. The one liners are classic.
If finding dated comedy funny is a prerequisite then I will stay soulless.

I used to like Rising Damp. As with a lot of those old comedy series, it was the characters that were funny without them even having to say anything. Nowadays, the characters are bland (which mirrors today`s society) so they are dependent on their lines which have no impact because the characters are boring.
Question Author
237SJ, they also depend heavily on swearing and trying to shock.
I remember seeing a repeat of on the buses recently in which Stan asked Chalky to play the white man....they obviously missed it prior to broadcast.

Mr Rigsby:" In my day there was none of this sex before marriage "! Sigh... then "there wasn't much of it after it either"
Mr Rigsby on Miss Jones underwear... "Miss Jones wears harvest festivals, all's safely gathered in."
I love Rising Damp. I think that Rigsby is one of the greatest comic creations ever. My favourite line was when he and Alan were discussing the sexual revolution and Alan confided in Rigsby that he was still a virgin. Rigsby said 'but I thought you knew were all the erogenous zones were?' To which Alan replied 'I know where the Himalayas are - but I've never been up 'em!'
