Parental Controls
2 Answers
Hi, I need to put parental controls on my step daughters laptop. My computer experience is switch on, shut down and that's it! I astounded myself by actually finding the part to do parental control but here's where I'm stuck
There is only one user account and that's hers - it has no password but says it is the administrator account. When I click to add parental controls it's saying I need to use a password. Now if I do this I will have to tell her the password as it's on her account so she can log on so obviously she will be able to take off the parental controls too (and she's clever with computers so she will)
Can anyone tell me how to make another administrator account with my own password and leave her account how it is (unpassword protected but still classed as administrator?
TIA

But you realise if you leave her as an administrator she will be able to create a new userid herself to probably bypass your parental control.
She can do all sorts of other things as an administrator.
One option is to downgrade her from Administrator to "Limited User" (or whatever it is called in your version of Windows)
That way she cant create a new userid, nor download and install new programs.
To be honest anyone who is "good" with computers can probably bypass any parental controls you set up.
Surely it is better to explain to her some of the "problems" when using a computer, and also maybe get her to use the computer only in a family room and not in her bedroom.
Of course if she also has smartphone (or tablet) she can still get up to all sorts of things on that.

thanks vhg, its fb we are really annoyed at her joining as shes too young. But I had a chat with her dad yesterday as it doesnt look like shes been on it on laptop so like you say im guessing her phone. We also decided as as theres usually older relatives around or her brothers and sisters then its more than likely the phone she is using... we decided to leave the laptop on trust and i can easily sort out her phone so she cant download apps... or more to the point. cant delete .... thanks for your reply i will definitely save that for future ...just in case :)
