Logging On To Websites

When I try to log on to this site, as soon as I click on a topic, I am asked for my username and password. If I enter the first letter of my username, it completes my username and password but when I hit enter, I have to go through the same routine again. I have tried checking the "Remember me" box but it doesn't make any difference. HSBC seems incapable of remembering my userid and I have to double click on the box before the Telegraph recognises me. On the other hand, the Times, a couple of supermarkets and various other on line shops work fine. I haven't changed any settings and in the case of The Answerbank and HSBC this is a fairly new problem. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Your web browser seems to have got some of your stored passwords mixed up. We need to know which browser you're using to tell you how to fix it. (i.e. are you using Internet Explorer 9, Internet Explorer 10, Internet Explorer 11 Firefox, Chrome, Safari or something else?). Can you also confirm that you're using a Windows PC or laptop (as the information might be different for mobile phones and tablets using Android).

Remove the password details for any websites that are giving you problems by following the instructions here:

Restart your computer.
Then try storing the passwords again.

Alternatively, try using a decent browser in the first place! (Hardly anyone around here uses the ultra-dire Internet Explorer)

I don't think there's any practical difference between using IE and Firefox; you do the same thing but Firefox itself is less incined to throw hissy fits like this. (Or it used to be, I seldom use IE now so don't know if it's still the case.)

You can have as many browsers as you like on your PC, and just use the one you want.
